Hon. Agnes Mantaine Pareyio was appointed the Chairperson of the Anti-FGM Board in July 2018 by President Uhuru Kenyatta. She was born in June 1956 in the present Narok County where FGM is deeply entrenched in the Maasai community. She holds a Diploma in Community Development and served as a primary school teacher for a decade from 1974, a year after sitting her Certificate of Secondary Education at Kilgoris Secondary School up to 1984.
Mrs. Pareyio is a social worker with over 20 years’ experience in community empowerment, promoting girl child education and women empowerment. She served as the Female Mutilation (FGM) Coordinator for the Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organization, the oldest and biggest women empowerment movement in Kenya for a year from 1984 to venture into politics.
In 1985 she served in the now defunct Narok County Council as a Nominated Councilor for a decade up to 1995. She would then be elected in the Narok County Council in 1995 and due to her leadership qualities, she was elected as the Vice person of the Council up to 2005
She then founded the Tasaru Girls Rescue Centre, an organization that provides safe spaces for hundreds of girls from FGM where she serves as the Project Coordinator /Chief Executive Officer.
She has attended numerous local and international fora and conferences championing the rights of girls such as; The Girl Generation Conference, London 2014, The One Billion Rising, New York, 2015, Kenya – Africa Regional conference on Enhancing the Capacity of Activists to FGM, 2015 and the New York – V20th celebration, 2018.
